Vamana Purana





The Vamana Purana is one of the eighteen Puranas composed by Vedavyasa of Hinduism. Vamana Purana is fourteenth in the list of Puranas, Pulastya Rishi himself has said this to Naradji. The greatness of Lord Sri Hari Vishnu is narrated in this Purana. Based on the Vamana avatar of Lord Vishnu, this Purana seems to be a Vaishnava Purana. But Vamana Purana is actually a Shaiva Purana because in this Purana a detailed description of the glory of Lord Shiva is found.

Introduction:-
The Vamana Purana composed by Vedvyas has 10,000 verses and 95 chapters. The fourteenth place is found in the calculation of Puranas, and Vamana Purana is small in size among eighteen Puranas.
The originator of Vamana Purana is Maharishi Pulastya Rishi and the original questioner and listener are Devarshi Narada. Vedvyas narrated the story of this Purana to Naradjine Vedvyas, his disciple Lomaharshan Sutko and Sutjine Naimisharanya to Shaunak, etc. sages.
In the beginning of this Purana, Pulastya Rishi’s story of Lord Vishnu’s Vamana avatar, Leela-Charitra of Lord Shiva, Jimutvahana-narrative, Brahma’s head piercing and Kapalmochan-narrative are described in detail in the form of question and its answer by Devarshi Narad.
Brief Information:-
The Vamana Purana consists of the northern part and the eastern part. In this Purana, there is the story of Trivarna along with the description of Kurma Kalpa. In this, along with the best character of Lord Vishnu’s incarnation Vaman, Nar-Narayan and Bhagwati Durga, Prahlad and Sridama, etc. devotees have very beautiful stories. Despite being mainly Vaishnava Purana, the superiority and unity of Shaiva and Shaktadi religions have been established in it.
In Vamana Purana, Dakshayagya destruction, Harika Kalarupa, Kamdev-Dahan, Andhak-Vadh, Balika Akhyan, Lakshmi Charitra, Pretopakhyan, etc. have been described in detail. Apart from this, Prahlad’s war with Nar-Narayan, the description of different vehicles of Devas and Asuras, the description of various forms and residences of Vamana, various vows, hymns, and teachings of devotion to Vishnu have been described.
In this Purana, a detailed description of pilgrimages like Kurukshetra, Kurujangal, Prithudak, etc., Shridurga character Tapati character Kurukshetra has been described. According to the Vamana Purana, Balika Yagya took place in Kurukshetra itself.
